Preschool Suppliespaper plates, flesh tone paints, paintbrushes, yarn, fabric scraps, construction paper, scissors, markers and crayons DescriptionLEARNING OBJECTIVE: For children to learn how we are different from each other, and to appreciate those differences. Friends come in all colors! DISCUSSION: Talk about how we all look different from one another - different skin tones, hair/eye color, etc. Talk about how boring the world would be if we all looked exactly the same, and that we should celebrate our differences - it is what makes each of us unique! ACTIVITY: Provide a paper plate for each child and flesh tone paints (have various tones available to reflect the diversity in your classroom). Have children paint the entire plate the same tone as their skin color. With various art materials (yarn, paper, fabric, etc), have each child design a likeness of his/her face on the paper plate. Mount the finished projects on a bulletin board when dry - it makes a wonderful display!! Use bulletin board titles such as "A Circle of Friends" or "We are all Wonderfully Made". Share this idea |
