Supplies

red, yellow and green construction paper (to cut out apple shapes), apple shape stencils or cookie cutters, scissors, glue sticks, camera and printer, Book: “Ten Apples up on top”, Worksheet (see PDF)

Description

LEARNING OBJECTIVE:  To develop concepts of math.  To help children recognize and create a pattern.  To have children relate number to quantity.

READ:  Read the book "Ten Apples Up On Top".

ACTIVITY:   Take a headshot picture of each child and have them printed up beforehand.  Have each child glue the picture of themselves onto a piece of paper.  Give each child a collection of multi-colored apple cutouts.  (Older children can trace apple shapes from cookie cutters and cut them out).  Help them identify a pattern with the colored apples and have them repeat it as they glue the apples on top of their picture. (Similar to the book).

Finish the project by having the child count how many apples are on top of their head, and writing under each picture “Sarah has 8 apples on top!”
