*This is a one (1) day event – Tuesday, April 21, 2015
Audience: Preschool, Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade General and Special Education Teachers, and Student Support Services Professionals
Presenter: Kathy Collins, National Literacy Consultant
The early years are important in laying a foundation for developing literacy skills. Growing evidence suggests that reading success early in a child’s school experience significantly increases their educational, social, and economic outcomes. This workshop will address developmentally appropriate reading and writing instruction from preschool to the primary grades.
The presenter, Kathy Collins, speaks at conferences and works in schools across the country to support teachers in developing high-quality, effective literacy instruction in the primary grades. She is the author of “Reading for Real: Teach Children to Read with Power, Intention, and Joy in K-3 Classrooms” (Stenhouse, 2008) and “Growing Readers: Units of Study in Primary Classrooms” (Stenhouse, 2002).
An optional follow-up led by SERC Consultants will address implementation in the classroom.
